Zinc Carbon are the original version of household batteries, used in most of the popular portable appliances and toys around the house. These have generally been replaced with Alkaline technology due to Zinc Carbon leaking over a period of time. This is the cheapest technology and still widely used where reliability and performance is not as important as cost.

Alkaline batteries are widely used in industrial applications usually where mains power is not available or practical. They may be used for the prime function or as a secondary or memory backup. Alkaline batteries are non rechargeable.

Silver Oxide is a primary cell that gives a higher discharge rate than Alkaline normally found in watches and specialised photographic and electronics projects.

Zinc Airs offers voltage stability combined with high energy density, making them a favourite choice for medical and monitoring devices.

Lithium primary cells are considered a longer life "Alkaline" type battery. They have greater operating temperature range but limited part numbers.

Recent government legislation prohibits the sale of nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries for the majority of uses, however it is still available for power tools, alarms and emergency lighting and medical equipment. The alternative technology is nickel metal hydride (NI-MH) Please contact us for upto date information as NI-MH requires a different charging regime.
